Mission Statement
Goals
Among the many services provided by Media Services are:
- Assistance setting up any equipment, whether it be yours or ours.
- Individual training in the usage of any equipment we offer, or that you request.
- Consulting regarding the use of any technology offered, to enhance a classroom lecture, or event being presented.
- Production Services for classes, events, and presentations.
Equipment
Think of a data projector as an alternative to a modern television. Like a television, a data projector can accept multiple input devices ranging from a set-top cable box; a DVD or Blu Ray Player; A computer, Mac or Linux computer or laptop, and sometimes even smartphones and cameras.
In our classrooms, the primary use for data projectors is through Windows based PCs to display PowerPoint presentations and to access various websites and educationally relevant Internet content.
A more recent - but very popular - equipment used in conjunction with our data projectors are document cameras which can project a live feed and are available in all standard QCC classrooms. Click here for more information on Document Cameras.
Additionally we have available connections for those who wish to bring their own laptops and common devices. VGA and HDMI connections are available in most classrooms (please see Classroom Contents for details) for video and standard 3.5mm stereo headphone connector for audio devices like phones, CD or MP3 players.
If you are unsure if your device has the necessary outputs to work with our projection systems, please contact Media Services. If your device is not currently compatible with our systems we will often be able to find a solution.
Individual data projectors are available for signing out via our Equipment Checkout Form
Media Services has a limited amount of laptops available to be used in conjunction with other audio-visual related purposes. If multiple laptops are needed for non-AV purposes you will want to sign out the laptop(s) from Help Desk instead.
For any locations that do not have a permanent computer installation available to use in conjunction with audio/visual equipment, Media Services can provide a laptop and conduct the setup of all equipment for you upon request.
If specific software is required, you will want to make note of that in the Additional Instructions field on our Online Media Services Request Form, as Media Services will likely need to work in conjunction with Help Desk to accomplish software installations.
All Media Services laptops currently run on the Windows 7 operating system and have Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox installed, in addition to VLC Player for playing uncommon video and audio files that the default Windows Media Player may not.
The laptops deployed by Media Services have the following configuration:
- Operating System:
Windows 10 - Software:
Microsoft O365 - Internet browsers:
Edge, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome - Internet connection:
Wireless
To make usage of the laptop easier, the technician will also connect a wired mouse. This will leave the user with two available USB ports for input devices such as thumb drives.
PowerPoint Remotes are available, should you require one for your presentation.
PowerPoint remotes are primarily used to control PowerPoint slideshows, allowing an instructor to move about the classroom more freely while advancing, rewinding or temporarily “blanking out” of the projected slideshow.
While designed for Microsoft PowerPoint specifically, they will also work with full screen Adobe Acrobat presentations in the PDF format, as well as Apple’s Keynote and some cloud-based presentation services such as Prezi.
Faculty that intend to make regular use of PowerPoint remotes are encouraged to purchase or obtain their own remotes, as Media Services has limited supplies that are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.
If securing your own PowerPoint remote is not an option, you may opt to sign one out on a per-semester basis using our Online Equipment Checkout form.
All Media Services provided laptops have PowerPoint remotes available, so those who know ahead of time when filing a Media request may want to make note of their intent to use the PowerPoint remote.
Media Services has two 60 inch LED Televisions on rolling mobile stands with adjustable heights between 48 inches and 72inches*
These TVs have inputs for Ant/Cable, HDMI devices and VGA analog video input for older PC/Laptops, in addition to analog composite AV inputs (three prong yellow, white and red RCA cables common for standard DVD and VHS players)
They also have a USB connection which a USB thumb (FAT32 or NTFS formatted) drive containing digital images/photos, video or audio can be connected and displayed without the need for additional equipment such as laptops. Please submit media intended to be displayed/played on our digital signage as far in advance as you are able, as we may need to convert your materials into a format that fits best on these digital signs.

Mobile projection carts are designed to offer the base functionality of our classroom A/V Lecterns, but with the ability to be mobile. As all classrooms now have projection systems, the only time a mobile cart would be required would be when a piece of the classroom technology fails and cannot be repaired immediately. In these cases a mobile projection cart will be deployed as a temporary solution.
Mobile carts may also be used for a secondary projected image if required, or they can be brought to locations on campus that do not have any other means of projection.
Each mobile projection cart comes with a data projector, Windows 7 based computer, a DVD/VHS combo player, a keyboard, mouse and speakers. A wi-fi antennae is affixed to each cart as well, with a coiled up network cable in case wireless signals are too weak in your location.
An extra VGA cable is also available for those who would prefer to use their own laptop rather than the included PC. Laptops used with mobile projection carts will need a VGA output to be compatible.
Note that there is no monitor included with mobile projection carts, as the projected image acts as a monitor.
Mobile Projection Carts are equipped with a PC computer with the following configuration:
Operating System:
Microsoft Windows 10
Productivity:
Microsoft O365
Web Browsers:
Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome
Sound is played through either the data projector’s speakers, or speakers attached at the bottom of the cart.
For any questions regarding PC, please contact the Help Desk at x4427.
Among the cables we offer are:
- HDMI
VGA
Display Port
Composite Cables
To checkout any AV Cables, please submit an Equipment Checkout Request, choose AV Cable, and choose from the dropdown menu.
If there is a cable you require, but don't see it listed, feel free to contact us, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
All classrooms on our campuses are equipped with a lectern whose audio/visual system design conforms to one of the standards listed below. Media Services strives to design audio/visual systems with the most current technology while simultaneously planning for the needs of the future.
Aside of each lectern is a step-by-step instruction guide for the lectern in the room. If you would like training in the use of any of our A/V Lecterns, or would like assistance with using your materials with the equipment, please submit a Media Services Request Form, and we will schedule a technician to assist.
- Type B - This standard includes a Resident PC, DVD/VHS player and connections for analog laptops as well as locating the controls to the inside of the lectern. If you require the use of a Document Camera in a room with this design, please fill out a Media Services Request Form as one will need to be delivered prior to the start of your class. Video from resident PC and other sources are projected onto a large 4:3 manual screen and program audio is amplified through ceiling speakers.
- Type C - Along with wide screen projection, this standard includes a resident Document Camera, DVD/VHS player and introduced both analog and HDMI support for laptops, tablets and other digital devices. Stereo program audio is amplified through two wall-mounted speakers on either side of the projection screen. This standard also moved the controls to a control box atop the lectern.
- Type C.2 - This standard modifies the Type C design by adding a second projector and screen, microphone audio for speech reinforcement, and includes a SMART podium interactive touch screen monitor.
- Type D - This standard includes wide screen projection with enhanced image quality and program audio is amplified through two wall mounted speakers. This standard marked the end of DVD/VHS players as part of QCC A/V design due to usage and market availability and is replaced with a BluRay/DVD player. Other sources include PC, Document Camera and expanded Brign Your Own Device connectivity adding mini-DisplayPort connections for Apple device along with standard VGA and HDMI housed in cable management cubby atop the lectern.
- Type Q - Introduced in QCC’s Engineering Science and Technology building, this standard includes an enhanced image projected onto an electric wide screen and program audio is amplified through two wall mounted speakers. Footage can be provided raw and unedited, or Media Services can work with your projects needs in order to provide a professionally edited video from the initial footage, which may or may not include additional relevant materials such as photos, narrations or text inserts.
Video can be provided in multiple formats based upon your needs. We can create DVD copies or provide digital formats that can be uploaded to Blackboard or YouTube.
Planning in advance is the key to a successful production, so please submit videography requests as far in advance as you are able, and be prepared to discuss your specific goals for the production.
Photography
Media Services is available to dispatch a photographer to various events including (but not limited to):
- Pinning Ceremonies
- Graduations and Commencements
- Building or Room Dedications
- Plays and Musical Performances
- Social Gatherings (QCC related)
Typically Media Services will take several days after the photo shoot to perform some post production magic to the still shots, but will provide RAW unedited photos immediately if time is favored over best results.
Photos will be uploaded to the cloud where they can be viewed in a convenient gallery format or downloaded to your own devices. Gallery links can be freely passed around to relevant parties as easily as replying to an e-mail.
Higher resolution copies available on burnt CD/DVD also available upon request.
Audio Recording
While most classroom recordings are best done using video recordings or simple user-recorded audio through our digital voice recorders, there are instances where more professional level audio equipment and technical expertise may be called for.
In these instances, Media Services will work with you in order to determine how to capture and record the best audio feed possible. The equipment used may vary depending on the location and nature of your event.
Recordings can be provided in any format desired, such as MP3 files, audio CDs, etc.
Setup Calendar
Here you can view up to date listings of our scheduled setups and events. Each day we review all submitted Online Media Services Request Forms and use that data to update this calendar. If you want to make sure a specific request has been entered into our delivery schedules, you may check the calendar below.
