Brothers & Keepers is an excellent resource for male-identifying students. One-on-one coaching, academic support, or various services are provided by Brothers & Keepers. This group promotes comradery by providing safe spaces to strategize individual academic plans. Students who qualify as members have to have at least three sessions with Brothers & Keepers. A session can be coming to a sponsored event, office visits, or a personal coaching session.
Students may qualify if they:
- Have experience identifying as men of color, fathers, caregivers, first generation students, employees, veterans, et cetera
- Are motivated to educate themselves at a higher level and willing to be receptive to constructive input from instructors, mentors, advisors
- Struggle with navigating academia, connecting with peer groups, speaking English as a secondary language in college settings and might benefit from new perspectives on developing personal action plans
- Could use an advocate on campus to help find the resources available on campus regarding financial aid, academic advising, career development, or general human services
Commitment:
- Maintain regular contacts with your academic advisors, professors, and mentors: a minimum of three contacts per semester. At least one of these should be a face-to-face exchanges to discuss your successes and failures while here at the college. Build integrity and network.
- Attend scheduled Brothers & Keepers meetings and events; at least three events per semester (cultural, academic, professional, social, personal) Show commitment and purpose.
- Five-In person community engagements per year
