If you need some inspiration today, think about Asmaa Aldulaimi, a driven QCC student who is navigating higher education while raising a family. Asmaa came to the United States from Iraq in 2014, bringing with her a vision of personal and professional growth. Starting at the college with English as a Second Language classes in 2019, she has since been pursuing two healthcare certificates: Medical Office Assistant and Medical Assistant.
"Education is so important to me. It breaks down barriers, helps with my decision making and creates opportunities," Asmaa said.
According to Asmaa, QCC's accessible and affordable education has been crucial in pursuing her educational and professional goals while supporting her family. Currently working in the HomePlate Food Pantry & Resource Center, Asmaa balances her academic goals with a vibrant family life. A devoted mother of three, her daily routine is a testament to her organizational skills and determination – from waking her daughter for school to managing household responsibilities and attending in-person classes.
"Asmaa is amazingly kind, always has a smile on her face and goes out of her way to help our students who frequent the HomePlate Food Pantry. Her dedication and warm-hearted nature have made a significant impact on those we serve," said Manager for Student Resources Bonnie Coleman.
While learning in a different language can be difficult, Asmaa is focused and enthusiastic about her educational journey. She credits her success to the supportive QCC community, including professors who provide extra assistance. Additionally, her children sometimes help her translate text from learning materials.
Beyond academics, she treasures family time. Saturdays are reserved for homework and then bonding time – watching TV, making popcorn and enjoying outings with her husband and children to local parks and restaurants. These moments of connection are precious to the Aldulaimi family.
Her journey illustrates the transformative power of community college education and the incredible potential of determined students. QCC is proud to celebrate students like Asmaa and the bright future she is creating for herself and her family.
