Fire Science students in this semester's Principles of Emergency Services course took an eye-opening trip to the Greendale fire station last month. Adjunct Instructor of Fire Science Jason Cantara coordinated the tour with Captain Mike Smick and students were welcomed by the dedicated staff of Engine 11 & Ladder 6. Students had a hands-on experience and examined some of the equipment used by firefighters.
The group also got to explore the firehouse where the members spend time during shifts, which are 24-hours long. The highlight of the tour was when station staff took the ladder truck outside and set up a 100' aerial ladder, explaining how it operates. To show their gratitude for the tour, students brought the firehouse a platter of desserts to thank them for their time and hospitality.
