WORCESTER, MA – July 2, 2024 – Quinsigamond Community College has been awarded a $500,000 Senator Kenneth J. Donnelly Workforce Success Grant from the Healey-Driscoll Administration. The grant is part of $15.9 million in workforce development initiatives throughout the state and is funded by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The grant will provide support for two of QCC’s workforce development healthcare programs, the Clinical Medical Assistant and the Nurse Assistant/Acute Care Nurse Assistant career training courses, offered through the Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education.
“This type of intentional funding support is critical to the communities we serve and the employers in need of these type of skilled workers,” said QCC President Dr. Luis G. Pedraja. “This synergistic relationship is vital to our region’s prosperous economic future.”
The funding will support 60 students in the Nurse Assistant course and 30 students in the Clinical Medical Assistant course. The funding will also include a training stipend for program completion, job placement and retention. QCC aims to serve individuals who are low-income, unemployed or underemployed.
“Healthcare is one of three named priority industries in the Central MA Regional Workforce Blueprint due to high demand for workers and defined career pathways that address significant barriers faced by residents,” said Dean of the Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education Kathie Manning. “This training project builds on the work of QCC’s Center for Workforce Development and Continuing Education by developing pathways into the healthcare field for a diverse group of learners. QCC has a ready pipeline of students able to begin training immediately.”
