How do student activities affect retention? What role does workforce development play in higher education? How has the role of community colleges evolved? QCC President Dr. Luis Pedraja was recently asked these questions and more as the guest star on a thoughtful episode of The EdUp Experience Podcast. Hosted by higher education expert Dr. Joe Sallustio, The EdUp Experience Podcast is a leader in engaging discussions on all aspects of higher education.
Joined by guest co-host Dr. Charles Lloyd, president of White Mountains Community College, Dr. Pedraja and Dr. Sallustio covered a range of topics from the decreasing enrollment of male students, to QCC's numerous support services that include mentoring, counseling and advising. A recurring theme throughout the episode is the holistic methodology that QCC utilizes to achieve student success.
"A one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work. We have to personalize the experience for students. Because we're not just educating, we're changing lives and helping the community," Dr. Pedraja said.
"You're describing a really unique mode of operation. It's important to highlight community colleges. It's hard work," Dr. Sallustio replied.
