On Monday, Executive Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Kevin Lovaincy paid a special visit to the The Children’s School: Early Childhood Education Lab School to read and discuss a book called "Be You!" by Peter H. Reynolds.
The children got to see vibrant illustrations and hear inspirational messages about growing into a unique person such as, "Be different...be odd. Be unique. Be colorful," and, "Be understanding. Help those around you to be themselves."
After the reading, Lovaincy led the children through a drawing activity that let them express who they want to be through pictures, which included images such as ballerinas, dinosaurs or simply family members.
"The children loved listening to a story and drawing with Kevin! Watching each child share their work with him was quite magical," said the Children's School Director Erin Roache.
The following week, the children got an up-close experience with local fire and police departments, learning about the tools they use such as the ax and fire hose and the uniforms and gear required for the job. Some brave children even got to turn on the sirens from inside the vehicles.
"At QCC, we provide a school program for children, which serves as a valuable resource for both our employees and parenting students," Lovaincy said. "Our commitment goes beyond supporting our students and employees; we are dedicated to shaping the future leaders of tomorrow. We place great emphasis on the early exposure of our children to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) education. Recognizing that early representation significantly impacts how children interact with others, we integrate diversity into our classrooms, curriculum and reading materials."
