Program Goals

The primary goal of the QCC Automation Robotics Manufacturing Technology Certificate (ARMTech) program is to provide a pathway to entry-level positions in local industries that require practical hands-on assembly, troubleshooting and repair skills in electric circuits, mechanical systems, electronics, automated systems, and/or robotics. The secondary goal of the ARMTech Certificate program is to prepare students to continue their education toward an associate degree in order to expand and enhance their career options and earning potential. The QCC ARMTech Certificate program is fully stackable into the QCC Electronics Engineering Technology - Mechatronics Option associate degree program, and partially stackable into the QCC Manufacturing Technology associate degree program; all of the credits earned in the certificate program are part of the Electronics Engineering Technology - Mechatronics Option associate degree program, and most of the credits are part of the Manufacturing Technology associate degree program.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Given schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and/or instructions, build and test electrical, electronic and electronically-controlled systems.
  • Use multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, and function generators to analyze and troubleshoot circuits.
  • Assemble electrical and electronic systems using proper soldering and wiring techniques.
  • Wire, test, program, and troubleshoot basic programmable logic controller systems.
  • Program, test, and troubleshoot basic robotic systems.
  • Monitor and repair basic mechanical systems; perform preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Perform precision measurement and calibration of mechanical systems.
  • Build, monitor and troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Apply the principles of mathematics to measure, quantify, and analyze electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Use a word processor to write reports and create documentation; use a spreadsheet to record, calculate, and display data.

Credit for Prior Learning

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) allows students to use skills they already have towards a college degree or certificate. Work, life, volunteer and military experience may be translated into credit, allowing students to take fewer classes and earn their degree faster. CPL eliminates redundancies for students who have already earned credentials or mastered skills required for their program of study.
