You will learn to scrape, process, cleanse, and wrangle data from various sources and code intermediate and advanced SQL scripts. You will design accurate, clear, and appropriate data graphics using R, R Studio, and Python and learn to design and code complex queries.

The Data Science Certificate is designed to provide the students with basic knowledge and skills necessary to pursue internship or junior data practitioner jobs in the field of Data Science. This certificate is ideal for adult students re-entering college or for students who are currently in the workforce and want to update their skill sets. The curriculum may be completed in one academic year, depending on the student’s background in computer applications. The curriculum is designed to gain knowledge in the topic of database design, and programming languages specifically used in the field of Data Science. This certificate is for anyone who wants to work in the field of Data Science.

  • Work with database applications to create, retrieve, update, and delete records.
  • Using Python, and R and R Studio to display large amount of data in an easily readable graphing format.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be able to:

  • Use a general-purpose computational environment to analyze data.
  • Scrape, process, cleanse, and wrangle data from various sources, including relational databases.
  • Design accurate, clear, and appropriate data graphics using R, R Studio, and Python.
  • Communicate the results of an analysis in a correct and comprehensible manner by selecting appropriate data visualizations.
  • Assess the ethical implications to society of data-based research, analysis, and technology in an informed manner.
  • Acquire basic programming, data, and database techniques to design and code complex queries.
  • Apply database management application development techniques to basic business applications.
  • Code intermediate and advanced SQL scripts, Python and R programming to gather and manipulate data for the solution of business applications.
  • Apply end user basic software to develop word processing documents, spreadsheets, databases and presentations.
  • Locate databases sources, and convert the data into readable and analyzable formats.

Credit for Prior Learning:

Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) allows students to use skills they already have towards a college degree or certificate.
